Friars Pride would like to congratulate Frankie’s Fish & Chips on winning the Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year award. Huge congratulations are also in order to Simpson’s Fish and Chips (2nd place) and Papa’s Barn (3rd place) – both valued Friars Pride customers.
To earn their spots, all three contestants went through a rigorous, multi-stage judging process during the last few months. Culminating in a presentation to a panel of industry judges, all top ten finalists, representing respective parts of the UK, went up against each other in a Dragon’s Den style pitch as they fought to win.
Valerie Johnson, owner of Frankie’s Fish & Chips, said: “We now get to go home to Shetland and say that our fish and chips are the best in Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales – without exception. How amazing is that. This is the highlight of my working life. I can’t thank Seafish and my brilliant team enough. You’re a credit to the seafood industry. 2015 is Frankie’s year.”
James Ritchie, manager of Simpsons Fish & Chips, also commented: “The calibre of entrants
this year was exceptionally high, so to come away as the second best fish and chip shop in the UK is such an achievement.
“And not only that, we’ve also been recognised for our potato sourcing and preparation. We’re very proud of our achievements and we can’t wait to get back to celebrate with our fantastic staff.”
Michael Papa-Adams, co-owner of Papa’s Barn, said: “This is the second year we have entered The National Fish & Chip Awards and been recognised as one of the best fish and chip businesses in the UK.
“For us, it’s not about filling our restaurant seats or selling the most portions. We have a strong focus towards promoting sustainability. We strive to maintain the high standards that we believe our customers deserve.
“We’ve been truly humbled by this experience. All the hard work that the Papa’s Barn team have put in has been worth it. We can’t wait to celebrate with them.”
