National Fish and Chip Day was once again a great success! This year’s day was held on Friday 7th June with locations set up around the United Kingdom, with crowds of people being drawn in to join in eating and celebrating fish and chips. With national coverage with Andrew Crock from the NFFF on BBC Radio 2, and coverage on BBC West County news at Krispies.
Trinity House, London
On Friday we were at various locations, one of these locations was in London at Trinity House. Kingfisher Fish and Chips were giving out free portions of fish and chips, and it created a real buzz around the event. With people stopping by to have fish and chips for breakfast and lunch and joining the long queue that was created – even though the rain kept coming down the atmosphere was enjoyable with many people enjoying the event.
We were also in Bournemouth City Centre where Bennett’s Traditional Fish and Chips from Weymouth set up their mobile Fish and Chip van and gave away free taster pots of fish and chips with a Heinz SqueezeMe Tartare sauce. The free samples proved very popular, with long queues around lunchtime and lots of people mentioning they would be getting Fish and Chips for their dinner later in the day. There was a great atmosphere around the van and some people couldn’t believe they were getting their lunch for free!
Krispies in Exmouth were also celebrating National Fish and Chip Day, along with Louise Marshall from Friars Pride. The National Fish and Chip Shop of the year are donating portions of fish and chips to charities for every portion they sold on Friday, which meant 700 portions of fish and chips will be donated between The Open Door Centre, Exmouth Friends in Need and The Salvation Army. The shop was also featured on the BBC West Country news with Tim and Kelly Barnes, and Louise Marshall who talked about fish and chips and National Fish and Chip Day.
