The Judging Criteria

Getting to the final 20 is a massive achievement. In The Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award the shops are judged on a range of criteria, and it’s not just about the quality of the food:

  • Excellence in the sustainable sourcing of key ingredients
  • Staff training and development policies and career opportunities for young people
  • Creation of innovative menu options for those with allergies and dietary requirements

Throughout the process there are a number of stages to overcome for these shops. To be named the UK’s best fish and chip they will undergo mystery shopping visits, full business performance audits of the shop, they will then have to give a presentation to an industry judging panel.

What’s Next?

The remaining 20 shops will next enter a draw to find out who they will be competing against in the next round of judging. This will then create the final 10 shops who will progress to competition final. The draw will take place today (27th August 2019) at Krispies Fish and Chips, Exmouth, the 2019 Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award.
