A host of industry representatives including directors from each corner of the Q Partnership were among those in attendance to salute the Solberg at the long awaited naming ceremony in Siglufjordur, Iceland.
The Solberg (‘Sun Mountain’) is a new addition to the longstanding partnership between Rammi and the Q Partnership, with the current two trawlers being succeeded by the Goliath that is the Solberg. With this 80m long and 30.3m high monster of the seas able to home a crew of 34, it is fully equipped with 5 floors which house a dining room, tv room and a gym, as well as a state of the art factory deck.
The Solberg’s factory deck will be used in the preparation of the skinless and boneless cod and haddock fillets which will be available for sale under the Rammi oCean Reserve and oCean Premium brands in 2 x 10kg packs this summer.
On the day, there was a vast crowd of local residents, who turned out in their droves to see and celebrate the new vessel, taking the opportunity to explore and be amazed by how vast and technologically advanced the trawler is.
With such a proud moment for the local community the managing director of Rammi, Olafur Marteinsson, was just one of a whole host of fantastic speakers to grace the crowds and talk about the fantastic new vessel.
Here at Friars Pride, and in the wider Q Partnership, we will be keeping a very close eye on the Solberg’s first official working voyage, with lots of chances to interact and even win some BIG prizes, so stay tuned for updates on when and how to join us on the journey!
