Start conversation around the official themes throughout Seafood Week
Tying your conversations into the Seafood Week themes, think about offering a special offer on the Fish of the Day for that particular day. For example, on Friday 6th October why not offer a deal on cod and chips?
Ask your colleagues to start using the hashtag #seafoodweek on social media
To increase awareness ask you colleagues to tweet using the official hashtag #seafoodweek. By talking about your favourite seafood, recipes, memories or anything else that’s relevant you can ignite this conversation on social media.
National Fish Pun Day (launch day, Friday 6 October)
This is a great way to encourage people to engage with Seafood Week online. Using species of seafood, in titles of films, books, TV shows, etc. you can highlight the fact that Seafood Week has started, think The Codfather, Jurassic Carp or The Da Vinci Cod – although we are sure that you can come up with much better puns! Another idea is to ask your followers to come up with a famous quote or sentence using a fish pun – kick start the conversation by saying “Do you have a fish pun – or do you want to mulllet over?”
Thinking visually on social media is key
Encourage people to post pictures with their tweets and make sure that whenever you tweet in relation to Seafood Week that you use the hashtag #seafoodweek.
Run a competition
To encourage participation in any event you decide to stage, try running a competition. Offering an incentive is a great way to engage with people. Think about what your audience would like to win – perhaps a free meal in a seafood restaurant or some seafood treats. You could also draw attention to other competitions being run by keeping an eye on @fishisthedish and #seafoodweek.
Tie a promotion into other related events that are happening throughout Seafood Week
Seafood Week isn’t the only promotion running from 6-13 October, so there are opportunities to get creative on social media or through in-store / shop promotions around the likes of:
- World Food Day (16 October) – promote unusual recipes from around the world. Encourage people to eat fish in a different, unique and tasty way.
- National Cake Week (2-8 October) – how about making some delicious fish cakes? Nobody said that cakes had to be sweet!
- National Curry Week (9-15 October) – offering a flavoursome seafood curry should help to entice diners through your door – how about some tasty curry sauce?
