The UK’s top 20 Fish and Chip shops were announced on Tuesday 1st September 2015 as part of the 2016 National Fish & Chip Awards, organised by Seafish.
To get this far in the competition the shops have had to be appraised across a variety of judging criteria including, shop appearance, responsible sourcing policies, customer service and staff training policies. They have also been assessed by a ‘mystery shopper’, who is an expert in the industry and assessed the quality of their fish and chips and customer service.
The remaining 20 shops still have to go through some grueling judging over the next few weeks, including, further mystery judging and in depth judging audits. This next stage will whittle the shops down to the top 10.

Mister C’s, Selby, North Yorkshire
Hodgson’s Chippy, Lancaster, Lancashire
Papa’s Fish & Chips, Warrington, Cheshire
SeaFish Restaurant, Ripley, Derbyshire
Simpsons Fish & Chips, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
The Cod’s Scallops, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire

The top 10 shops will be announced by Seafish in October 2015. These shops will then be invited on an all-expense paid study to Alesund, Norway, organised by award sponsor the Norwegian Seafood Council, to see first hand why the country is regarded as one of the world’s most sustainable fishing nations.
